One of Tennessee’s naturalistic painters, Virginia Skipper’s work has an overall warmth. There is a close-up reverence for nature in her paintings as well as a delightful harmonious feeling, which is almost musical in its aspect. Fragrant roses are her favorite subject. Thousands of blossoms have been painted on glazed porcelain surfaces and in watercolor,
oil and acrylic.
Formerly a nursing school instructor, Virginia also taught floral workshops and used to be a nationally accredited flower show judge. She travelled throughout the South judging conventional and abstract floral designs in collage, mobiles, assemblages and kinetics.
Private and corporate purchases, as well as exhibition awards, attest to her creativity. Virginia’s memberships have included Tennessee Watercolor Society, Chattanooga Civic Arts League, Association for Visual Arts, Tennessee Porcelain Artist Associations and International Artists, Inc. These represent forty nations, two territories and fifty states.
